Sol de Mayo Waterfalls – Santiago, BCS, Mexico

October 21, 2013 in Blog, Places to See

Everyone knows that Baja California Sur is where the desert meets the Ocean. Few people know about our large mountain range, Sierra La Laguna and one of the amazing oasis that it helps to form, Sol de Mayo.

Sol de Mayo and its beautiful waterfall is located just inland of Santiago, which is a small village on the road between the San Jose Del Cabo Airport and La Paz, close to Los Barriles.

The oasis lies on private land and although is part of a protected zone the public can access it via Rancho Ecologico for a small fee of $75 Pesos ($5US) per person.

Take the coastal road that connects Los Cabos to La Paz, Highway 1, and 10 minutes after Los Barriles (heading towards Los Cabos) take the turn off to Santiago. It is a small town and is sign posted on the road. It is also on Google Maps.

Once in Santiago you will see signs for Sol de Mayo and Waterfalls. This is where you are heading, so follow the signs. You will end up following a long sandy road for 10 minutes heading away from the water. And at the end of the road you end up at the entrance to Rancho Ecologico.

Once parked at the end you will see a friendly person waiting to meet you and collect the small entrance fee before they send you on your way to the waterfall.

We have produced the following map that you can print out or view on your GPS and internet enabled phones to help you navigate the trail.

Recommended Time to Visit: The sooner after rain fall the better as there will be more water in the falls, however give it a few days if it was a super heavy rain as the paths will be more slippery.

We had a fantastic time and know that you will too.

See our photo gallery below to see just how great it is.
