How To Dial To and From Mexico

How do I dial from Mexico?

The Mexican dialing system isn’t always as straight forward as you might think.

To help you out and ensure you are able to call correctly whilst in Mexico we have produced the following guide to dialing in Mexico.

The local area code in La Paz, BCS, Mexico is 612.

From a Mexican land line phone:

Dial 045 if the cell phone is a different area code than where you are

It is possible that your US carrier has a Mexico or International plan.  These plans allow you to dial Mexican numbers whilst in Mexico as if you were using a Mexican phone.  This means that you don’t have to pay international fees and you can dial using the instructions above listed (From a Mexican cell phone).  This can be very useful for people visiting La Paz for a week or two vacation.

If you are staying longer we recommend utilizing the Mexican cell phone that comes with the home, or if it does not come with one then even buying one given they are very affordable ($300 pesos or $25US for the phone and it includes $100 pesos credit).  The reason behind this is that although you can call people for next to free from your US phone you might find that they don’t like to call you back as it still charges them an international rate, which can be very expensive.

From most cell phones the 00 can be replaced by the + sign.  Often this is interchangeable however at times it is not.  This will depend entirely on your cell phone brand.
